Pavel Gossip Line
Summarized from PBFC newsletter
- With seven goals and six assists, Pavel is Canuck top point-getter for October despite missing games against Capitals and Sabres with a pulled groin muscle, an injury common to athletes having excessively-developed thigh muscles. Let's hope Pavel's career isn't plagued by this type of injury -- so far this season the Canucks are 7-1 with Pavel in th elineup and 0-2 without him.
- Add one more record to Pavel's growing collection; with his pair of goals in the 6-3 victory over the Flames - one against goaltender Mike Vernon, the second an empty-netter - Pavel becomes the fastest Canuck to score 100 goals, accomplishing the feat in only 154 games ... Pavel is fifth fastest 100 goals in NHL history behind Mike Bossy (129 games), Maurice Richard (134), Joe Nieuwendyk (144) and Wayne Gretzky (145), ... Says Pavel, "I'm happy when I score, but I'm more happy when the team wins."
- Good fortune has come to a couple of Pavel's fans of late: Gino Odjick enjoyed his first-ever 2-goal game in 4-2 win over Oilers with Pavel assisting on both. Gino came close to converting another Pavel pass for the hat-trick late in the third but unfortunately his shot missed the net. Gino has three goals thus far this season, all on deflections. Says Gino, "Deflections are something Pavel and I have been working on during practice over the last couple of seasons".
- After eight losses and a tie, Sharks have finally won their first game of the season, a 3-1 over the Oilers, thanks to Igor Larionov opening the scoring with his first goal - and first point - of the season.
- At less than a million dollars a season, Pavel earns less than a third of Ottawa Senator's rookie Alexander Daigle and attempts to renegotiate his contract have not met with much success, but according to Pavel's agent Ron Selcer, "Pavel's fine with it. He's just 22 and all he wants to do is have fun playing hockey".
- Pavel's brother, Valeri, who was drafted last year in the second round by the Montreal Canadiens, has signed a one-way contract with the Habs. Valeri is currently playing with the Spokane Chiefs and will play for the Russian National Juniors in Europe this year.
