Pavel Gossip Line
Summarized from PBFC newsletter

  • One of Pavel's great grandparents was a famous European watchmaker also named Pavel Bure. To this day, his watches are still sought after in Russia for their fine craftsmanship. They are advertised in the classified sections of Russian newspapers regulary. There is even a person in Vancouver who owns one.
  • One of Pavel's favourite aiport foods is Smoked Salmon on a Kaiser bun.
  • Pavel has not escaped the flu bug that has been making the rounds on the Canucks roster of late. During the recent trip to Quebec, Pavel registered a temperature of 104 degrees F.
  • Pavel's younger brother Valeri missed three games with Spokane of the WHL to join the Russian National team for the Deutchland Cup in Stuttgard. His performance in that tournament will go a long way in determining whether he will be invited by coach Victor Tikhonov to play with the Russian Olympic team in Lillehammer in February.
  • During the recent 2-1 loss in Edmonton, Pavel notched 11 shots on goal, which is not unusual in itself, but according to the official score-keeper, nine of those shots were designated 'quality shots', the highest total ever recorded in an NHL contest.
  • During the first eight games of the season, Pavel was 7-6-13 in scoring while the Canucks as a team were 33-24 with a 7-1-0 record. During the eight games that Pavel missed, Canucks were 24-26 with a 3-5-0 record. Since his return, Canucks are 27-32 with a 4-6-0 record.
  • The eight-game, 18-day hiatus from hockey is the longest that Pavel has been off skates during a hockey season since the 20 days he missed due to knee surgery in 1987 as a 16 year old.
