He founded first TV station with another Russian David Sarnov, President of Radio Corporation of America, later the plants of the corporation started producing TV sets. Another Russian emigrant, Igor Sikorsky, constructed first helicopter in the USA in 1939. Sikorsky Aviation Corporation is still among the global leaders in constructing helicopters, the US President uses Sikorsky's helicopter. Russians failed to create united community in the USA and elect their politicians, as Armenians, Jews and Ukrainians did.

New career?
Still rehabilitating his badly damaged knees, Pavel Bure might get started soon on his career after hockey. There were reports last week that Bure has been asked by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation to be general manager of the Russian World Cup team. The federation has suffered terrible disappointments in recent international competitions, and Bure might be able to restore order and respect. He is reportedly considering the offer. Bure hasn’t played since March 2003 and might never play again. But he is extremely popular in Moscow and a close friend of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Состав сборной России по хоккею в розыгрыше Кубка мира будет назван 31 мая. Как сообщили в штаб-квартире Федерации хоккея России, соглашение об этом достигнуто между руководством ФХР и дирекцией кубкового турнира. Согласно регламенту Кубка мира, который совместно проводит североамериканская Национальная хоккейная лига, профсоюз игроков НХЛ и Международная хоккейная федерация, все команды-участницы должны были объявить составы не позднее 25 мая.
Юристы Буре отказали России В сентябре в США состоится Кубок мира по хоккею. Все участники должны объявить свои составы на этот коммерческий турнир до 25 мая. Но сборная России решила идти своим путем. Федерация хоккея России пока не знает даже имя главного тренера и генерального менеджера, которые будут работать с командой за океаном.
Александр Стеблин, президент ФХР, судя по всему, очень надеялся привлечь в команду Павла Буре, уже год как не имеющего игровой практики. Правда, предложение стать генеральным менеджером Павлу поступило на его собственном дне рождения. О каких серьезных переговорах тут может идти речь?! Но прождав у моря погоды, Стеблин лишь на днях получил официальное уведомление от американских юристов, что Павел не поможет сборной ни как менеджер, ни, тем более, как игрок.
Хорошо еще, что дирекция Кубка мира, который пройдет с 30 августа по 14 сентября, пошла на встречу России и разрешила заявить состав не 25 мая, когда это сделают все остальные участники, а в последний день весны.
Теперь ФХР должна срочно провести консультации с кандидатами в сборную страны и тренерским штабом. В то же время ФХР направила в оргкомитет турнира расписание перелетов команды в августе и место тренировочного сбора, который начнется 18 августа в швейцарском Клотене, передает РИА "Новости".

Знаменитый форвард Павел Буре не исключает возможности своего участия в Кубке мира в составе сборной России в качестве действующего игрока. "Чувствую, что после травмы еще не восстановился - колено иногда беспокоит. Но в последнее
время усиленно тренируюсь и надеюсь к старту сезона набрать хорошую форму. Пока занимаюсь, что называется, на земле, а примерно в конце июня - начале июля выйду на лед", - рассказал Павел в интервью корреспонденту "СЭ".

Tihkhonov out as Russian hockey coach Viktor Tikhonov, the most successful coach in the history of international hockey, has been replaced as the head coach of the Russian national team, the country's hockey federation announced Friday. Zinetula Bilyaletdinov, 49, a former national team defenceman, was unveiled at a news conference as Tikhonov's replacement. Alexander Steblin, the head of the Russian hockey federation, said Tikhonov, 74, will remain with the national team as senior consultant. Tikhonov returned to the Russian national team last year and was behind the bench for last month's world championship tournament that was held in Czech Republic. Bilyaletdinov made his debut with the Soviet national team at the inaugural 1976 Canada Cup, the forerunner of the World Cup of Hockey. His first assignment as the club's coach will be the World Cup of Hockey, which will be held Aug. 30 to Sept. 14 in Canada and the U.S. Igor Tuzik, the vice-President of the Russian hockey federation, was named general manager of Russia's World Cup of Hockey squad. Steblin would not say whether Bilyaletdinov will remain the Russian national team's coach after the World Cup, saying only his term as head coach could be extended if Russia's World Cup experience proves successful. The World Cup of Hockey is organized by the NHL and by the NHL Players' Association in co-operation with the International Ice Hockey Federation. Vladimir Yurzinov and Valeri Belousov will serve as senior coach advisors leading up to the World Cup. Bilyaletdinov will unveil his coaching staff at a later date. Yurzinov, who is head coach of the Kloten Flyers of the Swiss league, was Tikhonov's assistant at the world championship. Belousov is head coach of the Russian league-champion Avangard Omsk. Bilyaletdinov has NHL coaching experience, serving as an assistant with the Winnipeg Jets-Phoenix Coyotes franchise (1993-1997). He also spent time with the Chicago Blackhawks and was the head coach of HC Lugano of the Swiss Elite League in 2002, before returning to Dynamo Moscow. Bilyaletdinov was a member of six Soviet world championship squads. He also won an Olympic gold medal in Sarajevo in 1984 and was part of the Soviet squad which captured the 1981 Canada Cup. Bilyaletdinov also played in the 1984 Canada Cup. The Russian hockey federation also named Washington Capitals forward Dainius Zubrus to its World Cup squad. Zubrus, 26, is a Lithuanian citizen, but is eligible to play for Russia in the World Cup because IIHF eligibility rules do not apply. The Russian hockey federation received the clearance from the Lithuanian Ice Hockey Association to use Zubrus, who will not forfeit his eligibility to play for Lithuania in future world championships. The remainder of Russia's World Cup roster will be unveiled Tuesday. Tikhonov led the Soviet and Russian national teams from 1978 to 1994 during which he won three Olympic gold medals (1984, 1988 and 1992) and eight world championship titles. Tikhonov also led the Soviet national team to the 1981 Canada Cup victory, beating Canada 8-1 in Montreal in the final, as well as to a 6-0 victory in the deciding game of the 1979 Challenge Cup against the NHL all-stars in New York. Tikhonov, who also led club team CSKA Moscow to 13 national league titles, was inducted to the International Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998. His harsh tactics often angered his players. One of the best examples came after his team won gold at the 1992 Games in Albertville, France, when Tikhonov took backup goalie Nikolai Khabibulin's gold medal and kept it for himself. Khabibulin always resented Tikhonov for it and eventually received a replacement prior to the 2002 Olympics. Tikhonov replaced Vladimir Plyushchev who was released from his duties after only one season. Russia lost in the quarter-final of the world championship won by Canada in Finland in May. The Russians finished a disappointing seventh. Russia has not won a world championship since 1993 after winning 23 titles between 1954 and 1993. Tikhonov coached CSKA Moscow in the Russian league after leaving the national team in 1994 and continuously produced top-level talent in his program. Nikolai Zherdev, who was selected fourth overall in the recent NHL draft, was a Tikhonov product. A total of four CSKA Moscow players were selected in the 2003 draft.

Russian World Cup squad revealed Teenager Alexander Ovechkin, the top-ranked prospect for this year's NHL entry draft, was among the players named to Russia's World Cup of Hockey squad Monday. Ovechkin, 18, played for Russia at this year's world hockey championship in Prague and is a forward with Dynamo Moscow. Russia was the last of the eight World Cup countries to announce its 26-man roster. Zinetula Bilyaletdinov, who replaced the legendary Viktor Tikhonov as the coach of the Russian team Friday, offered few surprises in unveiling the team. A total of 15 players on Russia's roster played for the national team at the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City. NHL goaltenders Evgeni Nabokov of the San Jose Sharks and Nikolai Khabibulin of the Tampa Bay Lightning were named to the squad, as was Maxim Sokolov of Avangard Omsk of the Russian Professional Hockey League. On Friday, the Russian hockey federation announced that Dainius Zubrus, of the NHL's Washington Capitals, would be on the World Cup team. Zubrus, 26, was born in Elektrenai, Lithuania, in 1978 when the country was still a Soviet republic. Zubrus has never played for Russia and according to the International Ice Hockey Federation isn't eligible to do so. But the World Cup of Hockey is being organized by both the NHL and NHL Players' Association so IIHF rules do not apply. The defence corps will feature former NHLer Oleg Tverdovsky of the Avangard Omsk of the Russian league, Sergei Gonchar of the Boston Bruins, Danny Markov of the Philadelphia Flyers, Alexander Khavanov of the St. Louis Blues, Darius Kasparaitis of the New York Rangers, Anton Volchenkov of the Ottawa Senators, Vitaly Vishnevski of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and Andrei Markov of the Montreal Canadiens. The Russian forwards also have a definite NHL flavour. Joining Zubus up front will be Artem Chubarov of the Vancouver Canucks, Boston's Sergei Samsonov, Montreal's Alex Kovalev, Anaheim sniper Sergei Fedorov, Ilya Kovalchuk of the Atlanta Thrashers, Maxim Afinogenov of the Buffalo Sabres, Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings, Viktor Kozlov of the New Jersey Devils, Alexei Yashin of the New York Islanders, Philadelphia's Alexei Zhamnov, Valeri Bure of the Dallas Stars and Oleg Kvasha of the Islanders. The other forward is Maxim Sushinski of Avangard Omsk of the Russian league. A total of nine players on the team played for Russia at the '96 World Cup of Hockey - Khabibulin, Tverdovsky, Gonchar, Kasparaitis, Kovalev, Fedorov, Yashin, Zhamnov and Bure. As well, Fedrov and Zhamnov also played in the 1991 Canada Cup. Notable absentees from Salt Lake roster are forwards Pavel Bure (injured) and Igor Larionov (retired) and defenceman Vladimir Malakhov. Russia's first game of the World Cup of Hockey will be Sept. 2 against the United States in St. Paul, Minn.
