Summertime thoughts from Pavel Bure

Canuck sperstar Pavel Bure reports from Los Angeles that his reconstructed right knee has given him no problems during his dryland training for the World Cup and that he is looking forward to playing for the Russian team.

Bure will head to his homeland via Vancouver on August 1st to prepare for the World Cup training camp.

"My knee doesn't bother me at all", said Bure, who attended the recent wedding of his younger brother, Valeri, to TV sitcom star Candace Cameron.

"Spending my summer in L.A. a lot of people don't know about my knee injury and I almost forgot about it".

Like most Canadians, and probably Russians too, Bure hopes that the two hockey powers meet in the Worl Cup final.

"You still have to count on teams like Sweden and the US but in international hockey, it's always been Canada-Russia. I think this could be like 1972", Bure said.

Incidentally, Bure says he would have no problem with Wayne Gretzky joining the Canucks as the team highest salaried player, even though Grtezky's best days are clearly behind him. (The Great One failed to accept a Canuck offer of $us5 million per season. Bure makes $us4.5 million).

"Wayne is a legend and he's done so much for hockey", said the Russian Rocket. "I think he's on a different level than anybody else".
