Pavel Gossip Line

  • At the All-Star game in Madison Square Gardens in New York this year, Pavel was held to a lone goal (He scored twice in last year's game), but had two breakaways and several near-breakaways.
  • Coach Barry Melrose of the Kings juggled the lines throughout the game but was sure to always have Pavel on a line with his 1990 World Championship linemate and close friend Sergei Federov.
  • In the Puck Control event of the Super Skills competition, the team of Wane Gretzky, Teemu Selanne was defeated by Pierre Turgeon, Alex Mogilny and Joe Sakic. Unfortunately Bure and Selanne both lost control of the puck on the first pylon.
  • In the Hardest Shot category, Bure's 96.7 mph was the early leader but finished fourth behind Al Iafrate 102.7, Al McInnes 95.2 and Chris Chelios 97.2.
  • In the Breakaway Relay, Pavel's shot was stopped by Jon VanBriesbrouck.
  • On his departure from New York, Pavel unintenionally missed the connecting flight out of Toronot because he was busy talking on the telephone. Later, when he arrived in Saskatoon for the neutral ice game against Edmonton, Pavel forgot his carry on luggage on the airplane.
  • Pavel isn't the only Bure selected to an All-Star team. His brother Valeri of the Spokane Chiefs was named to the WJC All-Star team.
