• Upon retruning from a five game road trip in January, Pavel found 26 pounds of fan mail waiting for him in the dressing room!
• Pavel has six shorthanded goals, the NHL season high is 13 set by mario Limieux in 1988-89.
• After the All-Star game, Pavel gave all his sticks away to fans.
• On the recent road trip Pavel had his sticks stolen in Quebec and Toronto, resulting in special guards assigned to watch his sticks during afternoon practice at the Maple Leaf Gardens.
• Pavel's longest goal-scoring drought of the season? Five games (Jan 24 - Feb 9). Longest point streak ? 11 games ( Nov 6 - 25).
• Says Flames Gary Roberts of Pavel. "You'd better be moving your feet if you have to check him. It's scary. He can go around you in a second".
• Pavel and his pal Gino Odjick play tennis on their days off.
• Pavel has only one game star award since the All-Star game, but still leads team in balloting.
• Growing up in Moscow, Pavel and his brother Valeri were Red Army fans, while their father cheered for Spartak.
• Pavel likes to listen to loud rock music. His dad likes the Beatles, but claims he doesn't understand the new music.
• Gino took Pavel to Coquitlam earlier this year when the Six Nations lacrosse team was playing. Afterwards, Pavel and had Gino over for a Russian dinner. "It was like baked perogies and chicken", says Odjick. "Only the salad was different, spicier and made with peas, turnips and tomatoes. There was no salad in it, you know".
• Pavel loves to play the Oilers and the Jets. He has five goals and three assists against each so far this season.

Bure rates usual media flap

Quebec City - There were no choruses of the song Bure, Bure here but there was the usual media flap as the Russian Rocket arrived.

The Nordiques had arranged for a translator to do a Russian-French interview session with reporters here, but given Pavel Bure's retiring nature and the quality of the translation, everyone switched to English.

Bure disagreed considerably with Pat Quinn's recent observation that Bure's five game scoring drought is similar to his experience of getting chances but hitting goalies and posts the way he did when he first arrived last season.

"It's not the same because then I didn't have 44 goals like I do now," he said. "Now I know I can score. I'm not worried."

Bure of course is soon to break all manner of single season club records, not the least of which are Tony Tanti's 45 goals and Patrik Sundstrom's modest mark of 91 points. He needs just one more short handed goal and one more game winner to set club records in each category and will obviously become the fist Canuck to get 50 goals.

Further, he will blow away his competition for most shots in a single season with his league leading 267 after 53 games, so he's hardly troubled by his five-game dry spell.

"If you're going to think about it too much you just put pressure on yourself," Bure said.
